French painter (1824-1898) who became the president and co-founder of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. ALS in French, signed “P. Puvis de Chavannes,” one page, 4.25 x 5.5, September 26, 1894. Letter to novelist and poet Léon Deschamps, the founder of the La Plume literary review. In part (translated): "Dear Sir, without being able to engage me in a definitive way because of works that take me whole, I want however to tell you that I do not refuse to me that you ask me." In fine condition.
