The Beatles' Hottest Hits album signed and inscribed on the back cover in pencil, "To Carol, love from, George Harrison," "Ringo Starr," and "Paul McCartney, Thanks," who draws a speech bubble leading to his mouth, and in red ballpoint, "John Lennon." In very good to fine condition, with light soiling, slight warping, and several old touch-ups and repairs to tears and creases. Although the record is not included, this particular Beatles title remains very uncommon. The Beatles' Hottest Hits was released in Denmark in April 1965, and was pulled from the market after a short time, with only a little over 3,000 albums pressed; the album is comprised of singles that weren't featured in the band's other albums.
Accompanied by a letter of provenance, in part: "As Christmas 1965 loomed, Carol Hunter, No. 2 in Harrods PR department, unexpectedly received a telephone call from Brian Epstein. He asked if he could 'bring 'the boys' in for some Christmas shopping.' Carol went straight to Sir John Burbridge (then chairman and managing director of Harrods) to ask what should be done. Sir John said that the whole shop would have to be closed in view of the popularity of The Beatles and this was done…Once in the shop, Carol took them where they wanted to go—primarily to the food halls where they bought numerous hampers to give to their families and friends…Carol had the presence of mind to take a record sleeve and ask for it to be signed."
