World War II-dated TLS, one page, 6 x 8, Headquarters 15th Army Group letterhead, March 19, 1945. Letter to Master Jay Sutcliffe, in full: "I have received your interesting letter of March 5th, and want to thank you for your encouraging words for those of us engaged in this long and difficult Italian campaign. It is always good to know that our efforts are being so closely followed by our friends back home. As you have requested, I am inclosing a Fifth Army shoulder patch. The blue mosque background signifies that the Fifth Army was organized in North Africa. It was the first American army to be organized outside the United States." In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing. Accompanied by the referenced patch and the original mailing envelope, which has also been signed by Clark.
