American naval officer (1755-1822) who operated as a privateer during the Revolutionary War and was one of the first six commanders appointed to the new US Navy by President Washington. Manuscript DS, one page, 7.75 x 12.25, July 18, 1795. Memorandum agreement by which James Throckmorton of South Amboy, New Jersey, conveys to Thomas Truxton "all that Estate in the City of South Amboy…consisting of houses and Lands seven or Eight acres more or less…for the sum of three thousand dollars." Signed at the conclusion by Throckmorton and Truxton. In very good condition, with overall creasing, and repairs to (and complete separation to) some of the intersecting folds, including the central horizontal fold.
