Description

Air Force Colonel (1917-2006) who commanded Air Force One for John F. Kennedy and flew the body of the slain president to Washington from Dallas in 1963. Two items: a TLS signed "James B. Swindal," one page, 8 x 10.5, Andrews Air Force Base letterhead, June 19, 1964, addressed to Ken Browne, in part: "We often fly over the Grand Canyon State on our travels but I have not been to Phoenix since November of 1961 when I flew President Kennedy there to attend a dinner marking the 50th anniversary of Senator Carl Hayden's election to Congress. I do not have any of the photos used by LOOK in their article, however, I thought you might like to have one of the Presidential Aircraft taken while on the ramp here at Andrews AFB, to add to your collection of 25 years." Also included is the referenced photo: a color glossy 10 x 8 photo of Air Force One, a Boeing 707 SAM 26000, signed and inscribed in black ink, "Best regards to Ken Browne—Jim Swindal, Col. USAF." In overall very good to fine condition, with paperclip impressions to both items, edge toning to the letter, and a short edge ear to the photo.
