Popular and much-admired emperor of Brazil who ruled for nearly sixty years (1825-1891). Manuscript DS in Portuguese, signed “Imperador [Emperor],” one page, 9.5 x 11.5, August 29, 1888. Official letter addressed to Ulises Heureaux, the president of the Dominican Republic, which reads, in part (translated): "By giving you this communication, I assure you that I will continue to strive to maintain and strengthen more and more the relations of friendship which fortunately exist between the Empire and this republic." Signed at the conclusion by Pedro. In fine condition, with minor chipping to the right edge.
