Writer, politician, diplomat, and historian (1768-1848) considered the founder of Romanticism in French literature. LS in French, signed “Chateaubriand,” one page, 6.75 x 9, Minister of Foreign Affairs letterhead, October 20, 1823. In part (translated): "I received, Monsieur, along with the letter which you did me the honor of writing, the lines which you composed on the illness of Madame Pasta. I read them with the interest they deserve, and I ask you to receive my thanks." In very good to fine condition, with two small edge chips, and light show-through from small old tape repairs on the reverse.
