ALS signed “C. L. Dodgson,” one page, 4.5 x 6, July 13, 1892. Letter to Mrs. Mallalieu, in full: "We had a fine afternoon at Cyril Iford, & I took Polly to see the Old Castle. We are here, all right, just going to dine. Polly shall add a P.S." Mallalieu's daughter Polly writes at the conclusion: "I am quite happy love to all." Double-matted and framed with an image of Lewis Carroll to an overall size of 14.75 x 11.5; backing of frame has a window for viewing reverse of letter, which has been addressed in Dodgson's own hand. In fine condition. Polly Mallalieu was a 12-year-old actress whom Dodgson watched perform in the play ‘The Silver King’ in Brighton in October of 1891. After Dodgson met with the family in London, young Polly stayed with the scribe at Eastbourne. His impression of Polly was that she was ‘a lovable child, ladylike and speaking good English.'
