Description

American author and Unitarian clergyman (1822-1909) remembered for his short story 'The Man Without a Country.' AQS on an off-white 3.5 x 2.25 card, signed at the conclusion, "Edward E. Hale, Feb. 12, 1878." Hale pens his 'Four Mottos,' in full: "Look up & not down:— / Look forward & not back:— / Look out & not in:— / Lend a hand!" In fine condition.
