Original complete premiere issue of Rolling Stone, Vol. I, No. I, issued on November 9, 1967, 24 pages, 11.5 x 17, featuring a cover image of John Lennon as Private Gripweed in Richard Lester's film How I Won the War. In very good to fine condition, with some chipping and minor paper loss to the brittle edges. Originates from the estate of Rolling Stone co-founder Ralph J. Gleason, and accompanied by a letter of provenance from Recordmecca's Jeff Gold, in part: "We acquired this directly from Gleason's family, and it was part of his extensive archive. Ralph J. Gleason (1917-1975) was one of the most influential jazz and pop music critics of all time. He was a central figure in the San Francisco rock scene, helped organize the Monterey Pop Festival, and co-founded Rolling Stone magazine with his protegee, Jann Wenner. Bill Graham himself credited Gleason with suggesting the Fillmore Auditorium to him as a site for concerts, while the Family Dog met with Gleason at his home to discuss their idea to stage dance concerts, prior to their first show at the Longshoreman's Hall."
