Description

Very early original green 8.5 x 11 promotional handbill for the self-titled debut album from the Grateful Dead, with a psychedelic negative-effect image of the band, Egyptian theme borders, and interior text reading: "In the land of the dark, the ship of the sun is driven by the Grateful Dead," script which was originally prepared for the top of the album cover and later stylized by artist Stanley Mouse to appear illegible. In fine condition. Produced for the Warner Brothers release, the handbill was designed by Rick Griffin in 1967, with the used band image originally taken by Gene Anthony. Griffin supervised the printing of these hard-to-find handbills on two variants of colored paper, yellow and green, with both versions becoming considerably scarce over time.
