Description

ALS, one page, 8.5 x 10.5, March 20, 1954. Letter to Harry Ford of Alfred A. Knopf Publishers, in part: "I'm distressed to be so late in writing you about Randall's book, but a lot of things, including a trip South & a broken leg, sort of hampered me. The book is fascinating, & only Randall Jarrell could have written it. I think that in the early stages some of the wit is rigged—which is not to say that it isn't real wit. I'm greatly impressed by the real fun, the incisive satire, the closeness of observation, & in the end by a kind of sympathy & human warmth. It's a remarkable book, & a remarkable document—sadly, & funnily, true." In very good condition, with overall creasing, and old scotch tape along the back of the split central horizontal fold. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed by Warren who adds his signature to the return address field: "R. P. Warren." Warren's review is for Jarrell's critically acclaimed Pictures from an Institution.
