Marshal of the Empire (1769-1851) who was one of only six officers in French history to receive the distinction of Marshal General of France. LS in French, signed “M'al duc de Dalmatie,” one page, 8 x 12.25, December 20, 1809. Letter addressed to the minister of war, in part (translated): "I have the honor to submit to Your Excellency a letter from M. Lachadenede under the prefect at Castres, which contains a letter of his brother, a naval officer and prisoner of war in England, who solicits his exchange for some English officers, prisoners of war in Spain. Many of these latter officers, most of them mutilated and consequently out of service, have been sent to France, where they have to ask permission to return to England until they are exchanged."
