Nature writer (1860-1946) who founded the modern school of animal fiction and helped found the Boy Scouts of America. Group lot of three items signed by author and wildlife artist Ernest Thompson Seton, highlighted by an exceptional 5.25 x 7.25 cabinet portrait of Seton in a handsome bust-length pose published by the J. E. Purdy Studio of Boston, signed in black ink by Seton with his paw print autograph; a TLS, one page, 5.25 x 7, February 17, 1902, written from New York, in full: "I fear I cannot help you much in the matter of Marmoset. The condition of the teeth will tell whether it is very old or not. If aged, they will be blunted usually"; and a TLS, one page, 5.25 x 7, July 4, 1904, written on his Wyndygoul stationery, in part: "Regarding the newspaper clippings all I have to say is I never saw one about myself that was wholly true, and the majority of them are wholly false." In overall fine condition, with a block of toning to the earlier letter.
