Description

Glass jar-type cigar humidor with a metal lid owned by Delta blues singer and guitarist Son House and given to his neighbor in Rochester, New York, measuring 4″ in diameter and 6″ tall, marked on the bottom, "Dun-Rite Wood Products, New York." In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance, in full: "This humidor came from the estate of Robert Brunk who was a close friend and neighbor of musician Son House. It was given to Mr. Brunk by Son House. The home's address was 61 Grieg St. in Rochester, N.Y. It was given to me by Mr. Brunk's grandson Bob Brunk." Also includes a small color print of an artist's rendering of House. In 1943, House retired from music and moved from the Mississippi Delta to Rochester, New York, where he found work as a railroad porter and chef. He was 'rediscovered' in Rochester in 1964 during the folk blues revival, and resumed touring the United States and Europe.
