Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “James Monroe” as president and “John Quincy Adams” as secretary of state, one page, 10.5 x 14.25, February 5, 1819. Scalloped-top ship's pass issued to the "Brig Mechanic of New York, Edward Golden master or commander...To Pass with her Company Passengers Goods and Merchandize without any hinderance seisure or molestation." The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. In very good condition, with overall wrinkling, creasing, and staining (which affects Monroe's signature but avoids that of Adams).
