Original abstract 'self-portrait' sketch by Monk in the form of a cube accomplished in pencil on an off-white 4.25 x 9.5 envelope, signed below, "Good luck always, Thelonious Monk." In fine condition, with a light block of overall toning. Monk's 'cubist' self-portrait recalls the discordant harmonies and angular, abrupt twists of his compositions. Provenance: The Burt Britton Collection, a private collection of 1,200 refreshingly spontaneous self-portraits.
