Description

A "protest against American International Pictures' treatment of Vincente Minnelli and his film, 'A Matter of Time'"

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, New York, New York letterhead, November 2, 1976. Letter to 'New Hollywood' director Peter Bogdanovich, in part: "I would like to thank you for your support in the protest against American International Pictures' treatment of Vincente Minnelli and his film, 'A Matter of Time.' I feel that it is important to do so whenever the creative process of a director is threatened. It is our obligation and our privilege. What affects one affects us all." In fine condition, with a light diagonal crease to the upper left, and an ink annotation to the lower right. During production of Minnelli's film, American International Pictures executive became frustrated with filming delays and rising expenses, and took over control of the film from Minnelli. Scorsese led protests and took out ads in trade papers chastising AIP for its treatment of a cinema legend; Minnelli later disowned the film.
