Description

American military officer (1830-1882) who, despite earning the sobriquet 'Hero of Little Round Top' for his actions at Gettysburg, was humiliated when General Philip Sheridan removed him from command after Warren's supposedly ineffective performance at Five Forks. ALS signed “G. K. Warren,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, Stevens House, On the European Plan letterhead, May 22, 1880. Letter to General Locke, in full: "It is probable you will be called on Monday. Will you not come and see me to-morrow afternoon or after dark and let you and myself have a cool talk together. Our close relations will make your testimony important and through Gardner who has cross examined you before my case is connected with Porter's and he may have points to confuse you upon. Don't mind any of his allusions to the Porter case and I want to arrange your ideas of my doings on the night of March 31st so that my Counsel will understand you and me. That is the important part of your evidence and I want it full, square or honest, as you may phrase it." Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet. In fine condition.
