Description

Confederate general (1831-1922) wounded at Shiloh and fought at Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge. ALS, one page, 8 x 10.75, War Department, War Records Office letterhead, January 9, 1899. Letter to General Wilson, in part: "I have just enclosed to Mr. Edward St. John…a tracing of Gen. Brook's signature and send you another one. I also enclose you list of sketches I have furnished for A. C. A. B. The $25.00 which you kindly had sent me, and the $15 (Oct 97) were both in part payment for work for the Cyclopedia. Our last volume out is Vol. 3 of series 2, serial No. 116, Vols 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 of this series are ready for the printer & much work has been done on series 3 & 4. Trusting soon to get check for balance due me." In fine condition, with tiny binding holes along the left edge.
