TLS, one page, 6.25 x 8.5, personal letterhead, May 1, 1995. Letter to Dr. Richard Long of the US Department of Labor, in part: "My views today are the same as when I served in the House, as Vice President and President. The United State's goal was right—a non-communist Vietnam. I had some serious reservations about military policy during the Johnson Administration, which I publicly expressed. Secretary of Defense McNamara, at least annually, testified before the Defense Appropriation subcommittee of which I was a member (1953-1964). This subcommittee of House Appropriations Committee handled all funding, personnel and military policy of the Pentagon. Secretary of Defense McNamara always testified in favor of the Vietnam policies and decisions of Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. I am surprised by his comments in his new book." In fine condition, with stapled holes to the upper left corner. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope bearing a preprinted free frank.
