Description

Stunning matte-finish 8.25 x 11.25 portrait photograph of King George VI by Royal Court photographer Dorothy Wilding, the king depicted in service dress military uniform with swagger stick under left arm, affixed to an 8.75 x 13 mount, boldly signed on the mount in fountain pen, "George R., 1949." Also signed in the bottom left corner of the photo by Wilding in her idiosyncratic block-letter style. Matted in green suede and framed to an overall size of 14.25 x 18.5. The rear of the photograph bears the Dorothy Wilding studio stamp with the access number 015154 B and is still visible through a window at the rear of the frame, covered by glass In very fine condition. While many such portraits were produced by Wilding for distribution around the Commonwealth, few had her idiosyncratic signature and rear plate included—and condition of both photo and plate are excellent.
