Civil War-dated LS signed “Alfred W. Ellet, Brig. Gen.,” one page, 7.75 x 10, Head Quarters Mississippi Marine Brigade letterhead, December 18, 1863. Written from his flagship "Autocrat, Opposite St. Joseph," a letter to Major General James B. McPherson, in full: "I send in charge of Lt. Col. Currie the prisoners captured since we have been in this neighborhood. Some of the parties claim to be citizens and probably are, but in all cases we have had such satisfactory evidence of their complicity with the enemy and of their hostility to the Federal cause that I have deemed it advisable to send them to you for disposal. Col. Currie will be able to inform you of the conditions of affairs here. I should have fifteen hundred Infantry in addition to my present command to enable me to meet Adams. Gen. Gresham should march out from Natches and I from here and probably one or other of us could find him. Although I do believe that his purpose is not to fight I shall be glad to hear from you, perapse you may have more information." In fine condition.
