Description

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, November 26, 1918. Letter to Senator Selden Palmer Spencer, written just two weeks after the armistice to end World War I. In part: "It will give me real pleasure to see you. I wonder if it would be convenient for you to call at the White House on Wednesday, the twenty-seventh, at 6.15." In very good to fine condition, with a crease to the upper left corner, a few small stains, and light blurring to the signature. Notably, Senator Spencer was one of the Republicans in opposition to the Treaty of Versailles and spoke out against America's participation in the League of Nations—one of President Wilson's most dearly held platform points.
