Vintage glossy 8 x 10 studio portrait of Wyler in a bust-length pose, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Harold Russell, a real 'Trooper'—in the best sense of the word—with many thanks for a fine performance—your friend & well-wishes, William Wyler, Hollywood, Summer 1946.” In very good condition, with scattered creasing and crazing.
An exceptional photo given the scarcity of Wyler and his connection with the photo's famous recipient, Harold Russell, a World War II veteran-turned-actor who Wyler directed in the 1946 film The Best Years of Our Lives. Both Wyler and Russell received Oscars for their efforts, with Russell also taking home an honorary award for 'bringing hope and courage to his fellow veterans.' Russell is only one of two non-professional actors to win an Academy Award for acting.
