Description

Desirable ink signature, "Carl Sandburg,” on an off-white 5.5 x 8.5 book page bearing a preprinted intro to his 1939 book Storm Over the Land, which reads, in part: "So definitely there was storm over the land when in 1861 there came The War Between the States, the War of the Brothers, the War of the Rebellion, the War Between the North and the South, the War Against Secession, the War for the Union…once in Charleston, S. C. I heard all these names discussed. In the end there was general agreement that the most accurate and fitting name was the War of the American States in 1861-1865. The next most acceptable name for American use was The Civil War." Includes an opening page from the same book, identifying the copy as deriving from the Civil War Book Club edition. In fine condition.
