Description

“Charles Buddy Holly, a single man”—four days before his whirlwind wedding

DS, signed "Charles Buddy Holly," one page, 8.5 x 7, August 11, 1958. Promissory note in which Holly agrees to pay L. O. Holly a total of $55,000 for "the construction of certain improvements upon that certain lot or parcel of land situated in Lubbock County, Texas, described as follows: Tract 43-E of the Replat of Bobalet Heights, an addition to the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas." Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen. Impressively cloth-matted and framed with an engraved nameplate and a portrait of the rock and roll pioneer to an overall size of 29.25 x 24.75. In fine condition. Listing him as "a single man," this land document predates Holly's speedy marriage to Maria Elena Santiago on August 15, 1958, by less than a full week. A fantastic example of Holly's full name. Previously sold by Sotheby's, June 1990.
