Description

"Buddy Holley" warmly inscribes a 1953 high school yearbook

Original 1953 Lubbock High School 'The Westerner' yearbook, 7.75 x 10.75, 320 pages, signed in blue ink, "Buddy Holley," as a member of the sophomore class above his student photo on page 128. Also inscribed by Holly on a free end page at the back of the book, "—Gene—To a great pal. Here's hopin' you'll have the best of luck in the years to come." Includes a Westerner yearbook from 1954 (not signed by Holly), depicting Holly as a member of the junior class on page 94, and on page 146 as a member of the Senior A Capella choir. Both yearbooks are signed by Holly's longtime girlfriend Echo McGuire. In overall very good to fine condition. The consignor notes that "Gene" was one of Holly's classmates, and they actually recorded a song together. Born in Lubbock as Charles Hardin Holley, but known to all as 'Buddy,' Holly dropped the 'e' from his surname after Decca misspelled it in his original 1956 recording contract. A superb early autograph from the pioneering rock 'n' roller.
