Description

General in the Union Army (1817-1893) during the American Civil War who served as a United States Representative from Iowa and later from California. ALS signed “Wm. Vandever,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, April 17, 1891. Letter to General Henry M. Cist, in full: "Replying to the inquiries contained in your favor of Mar 20—concerning Col. David Carskaddon of the 9th Iowa Infantry—I have to say that the last I knew of him he was living at Sioux City Iowa. He resigned and left the service about the month of January 1865 being then on leave. He entered the service in 1861 as Captain of Company K. 9th Iowa Infty, of which Regt. I was then Col. I am not aware of his serving in any other Regt. or Command during the war." In very good to fine condition, with a rectangular block of toning to the upper blank area, and wear to the top edge.
