Description

An upcoming "Allan Quatermain story" that "is chiefly concerned with certain African superstitions"

Prolific British novelist (1856-1925) best known for such adventure fare as King Solomon's Mines and Allan Quatermain. LS, one page both sides, 8 x 10, Ditchingham House letterhead, October 18, 1923. Letter to Samuel Adcock, in full: "I do not think that 'Heu-Heu' is to appear for some time—at what exact date I cannot say. It is an Allan Quatermain story & is chiefly concerned with certain African superstitions. Also, oddly enough, it introduces a tribe of half human savages known as the Heu-heua, or the Hairy Wood Folk, to which the owner of the famous & recently discovered Rhodesian skull might well have belonged. The story, however, was written before the finding of the skull. Upon this journey into the interior Allan Quatermain is accompanied by his servant, Hans the Hottentot, to whose cunning he owes his ultimate escape from a very dangerous situation. The book will be published by Messrs. Hutchinson." In very good to fine condition, with toning over the upper half of the signed page.
