ALS signed “H. Clay,” one page, 7.75 x 10, July 21, 1845. Written from his Ashland estate, a letter to Anne Deas, in part: "It never, for a moment, occurred to me that I had the honor of addressing you, of whom both Mrs. Clay and myself retain s lovely and friendly recollection. I have looked into the volume which you did me the favor to send me, and find it full of interesting illustrations of Revolutionary events and occurrences, and a just tribute from you to the memory of your father, I sent the volume to a bookseller in Lexington, and requested him to examine it and order some copies of it, if he thought he could dispose of them. I hope he will decide to send for them." In fine condition, with several bits of old tape along the hinge.
