Description

Seinfeld gets his Vegas start in 1982

Early ALS signed “Jerry,” one page both sides, 7.25 x 10.5, Riviera letterhead, postmarked February 22, 1982. Letter to Sam Yates, in full: "I'm sorry I took so long to reply to your wonderful letter. You have no idea how much it meant to me that you and Gracie enjoy my work so much. I try so hard to be good and as you say 'make it fun' and refreshing. There's nothing and I mean nothing as satisfying as hearing from someone as nice as you two thanking me for my efforts. I'm here at the Riviera working for my first time in Las Vegas. It's been the most exciting job of my career as well as a smash success with the audiences, critics, and hotel. But I am sincere when I say that appreciation like yours means every bit as much. Thank you again and best of luck in everything." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in his own hand, with Seinfeld adding his mailing address and autograph on the reverse: "Jerry Seinfeld, 909 Westbourne #205, LA CA 90069." In early 1982, Canadian singer Anne Murray gave Seinfeld an opening spot for her 13-day run at the Riviera's Versailles Theater after watching him on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Seinfeld later stated that he owes his success to Murray for those early Vegas shows.
