Description

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 13.75 x 16.5, February 25, 1861. President Buchanan appoints Robert F. Bradford as “a Lieutenant in the Navy…in the service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Buchanan, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Isaac Toucey. Green Navy Department seal remains affixed to lower vignette. Impressively matted and framed to an overall size of 21.5 x 24.25. In very good condition, with Intersecting folds (one passing through a single letter of the signature), scattered toning and soiling, and a small area of paper loss to printed text.
