Senior British Army officer and colonial administrator (1850-1916) who earned notoriety for his imperial campaigns, in particular his scorched earth policy against the Boers and his establishment of concentration camps during the Second Boer War. ALS signed “Herbert Kitchener,” one page, 4.25 x 6.75, June 5, no year. Letter to Sir William, in full: "Hearty congratulations on your new honours. I hope you may long enjoy them—perhaps we may meet in July when I intend to take leave." Kitchener adds a brief line to the upper left. Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 23.25 x 20.75. In fine condition.
