Uncommon 6.75 x 10 broadsheet containing President Kennedy’s typed memorandum to Vice President Johnson, April 20, 1961, posing questions related to the nascent space race and possible lunar voyages, signed in black felt tip, “Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14” and “Charlie Duke, Apollo 16 LMP,” and in blue felt tip, “Alan Bean, Apollo 12 LMP” and “Richard Gordon, Apollo XII CMP.” The sheet is postmarked July 20, 1969, and bears an Apollo 8 ‘Earthrise’ stamp, as well as an image of Kennedy giving a speech to Congress on May 25, 1961. Includes an additional broadsheet of Kennedy’s memorandum, with this example bearing a “First Day of Issue” stamp, postmarks dated to September 9 and July 20, 1969, and a 10-cent “First Man on the Moon” stamp. In overall fine condition. Consignor notes that the signatures were obtained in person at Spacefest in San Diego, California, in February 2009.
