Description

Gifts given and received by Brad Delp, including: a blown glass ‘planet’ globe by glass artist Josh Simpson given to Delp by former Boston manager Jeff Dorenfeld, etched on the bottom, “Simpson, 1988, for Brad & Micki, Jeff & Nancy”; and a ceramic tile portraying artwork by Edna Hibel entitled ‘Alexandra with Sunflowers,’ with a framed print of the same picture, given by Brad Delp to his wife Micki in 2005, including a card with a handwritten note inside, signed “Brad,” in part: “Here’s your birthday present inscribed by Edna. When I told her these gifts were an annual tradition she asked if she could include my name on one of the inscriptions. The tile was the first piece that caught my eye, when I first went to the shop, so I wanted to include that too.” The tile measures 7.75 x 6 and has a label on the back inscribed by the artist, “To Micki, with love, Edna Hibel,” and the print is framed to an overall size of 15 x 13, with a similar label inscribed by Hibel, “To Micki, with love from Brad and Edna Hibel.” In overall fine condition, with a few tiny chips to the tile. Micki notes that Brad always bought her something by Hibel, as the artist's 'Mother and Child' works were her favorite. A wonderful, warm gift from Delp that demonstrates his thoughtfulness—he was considered 'the nicest guy in rock and roll.' From the Brad Delp Collection, and accompanied by a letter of provenance from Micki Delp.
