Description

Marlene Dietrich

DS, 26 pages, 8.5 x 13, October 26, 1943. Agreement between Dietrich and Loew's Incorporated in which she is employed "to render her services for the producer as an actress, as hereafter provided, in two (2) photoplays…The first of said two photoplays shall be the photoplay now entitled 'Kismet.' The second of said two photoplays shall be designated by the producer." Boldly signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by Dietrich and countersigned by an assistant treasurer for the studio. The document is held in its original folder along with numerous internal studio documents, including typed memos, carbon copies of letters, and accounting department routing slips. One of the memos, dated October 29, 1943, reads, in part: "Because of bruises received by her while doing a dance number for Kismet on October 26th the above was unable to render services on October 27th, 28th and today…Miss Dietrich did come in on both October 27th and 28th for wardrobe fittings." In fine condition. A Technicolor film starring Ronald Colman and Marlene Dietrich, Kismet was nominated for four Academy Awards.
