Revolutionary War-dated partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Sam'l Huntington President,” one page, 10.5 x 7, July 20, 1780. As president of Continental Congress, Huntington appoints Timothy Allen as "Captain Lieutenant in the Regiment commanded by Colonel Webb in the Army of the United States." Neatly signed at the conclusion by Huntington as president of the Continental Congress, and countersigned by Benjamin Stoddert as secretary of the Board of War. The white paper seal affixed to the upper left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with light toning and soiling. Col. Samuel Blachley Webb's regiment, the 9th Connecticut, had recently been involved in the Battle of Springfield on June 23, 1780, repulsing a British advance into New Jersey.
