Description

Caleb Strong

Attorney and politician (1745-1819) who served as the sixth and tenth governor of Massachusetts. Partly-printed DS, one page, 15.25 x 9.75, September 22, 1802. As governor of Massachusetts, Strong appoints John McDonald as "Ensign of a Company in the fifth Regiment of the first Brigade, Sixth Division of the Militia of this Commonwealth." Crisply signed on the left side by Strong, and countersigned at the conclusion by John Avery as secretary. The white paper seal affixed to the upper left remains intact. In very good condition, with some splitting and small holes along intersecting folds.
