Description

Section of the Navy's first nuclear-armed cruise missile

Cross-section segment of an Allison J33-A-14 turbojet Regulus cruise missile from the late 1950s, measuring approximately 26″ tall and 12″ in diameter. In very good condition, with rusting and wear. The Regulus was the US Navy's first nuclear-armed cruise missile, deployed from 1955-1964. The full missile measured 32´ long and went subsonic up to 500 nautical miles. The Regulus not only provided the first nuclear strategic deterrence force for the US Navy during the early years of the Cold War, but served as the forerunner to the Tomahawk cruise missile which remains in use today. From the collection of aerospace memorabilia specialist Ken Havekotte.
