Description

Pulp and science-fiction author (1911-1986) who became a lightning rod for controversy as the founder of the Church of Scientology. TLS, two pages, 8 x 10, personal letterhead, March 4, 1975. Letter to Jack Huff of the Baldwin Piano & Organ Company, in part: "With three conditions, your offer as per invoice 2-26-75 is accepted. 1. That the turn in on the Porta B—$800—will be retained as credit or refundable on receipt of the Porta B by you. 2. That you fully service the 220V 50 cycle Baldwin 130DRC and PORSS and UTC before crating, ensuring no hum or crackle exists, that they are functional and that all cables fit and that all units respond to and work on 220V 50 cycles. They will be a long way from home. 3. That crating is excellent and that no damage will be suffered due to rough handling in shipment. Airlines and surface freight get very rough handling and are often dropped." In fine condition. Hubbard wrote and released Space Jazz in 1982, as a conceptual soundtrack for his science fiction novel Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000.
