Description

McKinley approves the legislation of the Chickasaw Nation

Scarce DS as president, one page, 8 x 10, March 8, 1898. Typed copy of a fully executed act by the Chickasaw Nation legislature, entitled "An Act to appropriate the sum of four thousand two hundred, fifty-one dollars and fifty two cents," concerning the disposition of funds for "jury and witness fees," approved on the reverse by President McKinley. In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges and a thin old strip of mounting tape along one edge. Based on the 1897 Atoka Agreement between the Chickasaw Nation tribe and the US government, the American president was required to approve legislation of this type. An interesting and unusual presidential document.
