Description

Race car driver and president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway who was killed in a plane crash in 1954. Vintage glossy 10 x 8 photo of Shaw after winning the 1939 Indianapolis 500, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "With my best wishes always to my friend 'Smoot' Schmid from your faithful deputy, Wilbur Shaw, 1-1-40.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered creasing, including a few diagonal surface creases passing through the front of the car. From the collection of Dallas County Sheriff 'Smoot' Schmid, who participated in the manhunt for notorious gangsters Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.
