Roosevelt would announce his intention to run for the Republican nomination later in February. After being defeated at the convention by the incumbent Taft, Roosevelt formed the Progressive Party, nicknamed the Bull Moose Party, and ran as a third-party candidate. Both he and Taft, however, would be defeated by Woodrow Wilson in the 1912 election.
