Description

Politician and financial genius (1761-1849) responsible for the formation of what is now known as the Ways and Means Committee. LS, one page, 7.25 x 9, January 4, 1808. Letter to Epaphias W. Bull, in full: "Your letter of the 25th ult. has been received; and to afford you the information required therein, I enclose a copy of a letter to the Surveyor General on the same subject." Gallatin signs again on the integral free franked mailing panel. Includes the referenced letter to Surveyor General Jared Mansfield, filled out and signed in a secretarial hand, regarding the southern boundary of the Connecticut Western Reserve. In very good to fine condition, with some creasing and staining, and seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf.
