Description

Correspondence with the Hayden Planetarium director

Three TLSs, each signed “Isaac,” one page, approximately 5.75 x 7, personal letterhead. Each letter is addressed to Mark Chartrand, the director of the American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium. The first letter, dated June 12, 1977, in part: “Last time we were at the Planetarium on the occasion of the pub date celebration of Collapsing Universe, we managed to walk off (inadvertently) with one of the coat checks. I’ve been meaning to return it at the Summer Solstice meeting, but I’ve had the bad taste to indulge in the unprofessional conduct of having a coronary…I am under house arrest for at least two weeks, so I’ll have to miss the meeting, darn it”; another, dated June 23, 1977, in part: “These days, however, I am finding it difficult to concentrate on anything but what the doctor will say (I’m seeing him in a couple of hours.) Assuming he gives me a good report on progress I fully intend to be at the Institute on Man and Science where I do plan to be on the stage with you and Ben”; and the last, from September 26, 1981, in part: “Stop with the limericks. You make me look bad, you scoundrel…I have a talk in Washington (two of them, in fact) on November 10, and we’ll be getting in on the afternoon of November 9. Therefore, we hope to have dinner with you and the Adlers.” In overall fine condition, with a small piece of tape, and a small area of tape-related surface loss to the earliest letter. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
