John L. Burns

Gettysburg shoemaker (1793—1872) who, upon seeing the Union soldiers march past his home, joined the Iron Brigade at the Battle of Gettysburg at the age of 69. He was wounded, but survived to become a national celebrity. Exceptional 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Burns posing with a rifle, signed on the reverse in ink, “John L. Burns, Gettysburg.” Published by E & H. T. Anthony of New York from a Brady photographic negative. In fine condition, with light staining beneath the image. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
