Prolific American screenwriter, filmmaker, and novelist (1894–1964) who won the first Academy Award for Original Screenplay for the 1927 film Underworld; he won a second Best Writing Oscar for the 1936 film The Scoundrel. Rare vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 soft-focus portrait of Hecht, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Aleck Smallers, who admires me too much, Ben Hecht.” Signed in the lower left in ink by the photographer, “Albert Petersen, N.Y. 31.” Trimmed, mounted, and in very good to fine condition, with silvering to edges.
