Vintage glossy 10.75 x 13.5 Hurrell photo of Temple posing with her elbows propped in a book, neatly signed and inscribed in black ink, “To Doc Bishop, love, Shirley Temple, 1–13–36.” Reverse bears a Hurrell credit stamp. Trimmed and in fine condition, with a few tape pieces to edges. In addition to serving as Temple’s publicity agent, Bishop became a close friend of his pint-sized employer, often playing games of ‘squares’ with Temple when he wasn’t acting as her personal assistant or fending off press. A wonderfully clear, boldly signed photo of the curly-haired bookworm. This exact photo was chosen as the cover of the March 2010 Autograph Magazine issue highlighting Tom Gregory’s collection.
