Character actor (1879–1961) best remembered as the mad scientist Dr. Pretorius in The Bride of Frankenstein. Scarce ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 6.75, 142 Sloane Street letterhead, no date. Letter to Miss Hince, in full: “I was so sorry not to be able to see you yesterday when you called. I should be so glad if you would come to my studio in Chelsea some time when you have found out details about the banner. If you will send me a line to this address saying when you could conveniently come, I will let you know the address.” Reverse of second integral page bears an attractive sequence of paint blots. In fine condition. Although the letter is undated, Sloane Street indicates that Thesiger was at the time living with his father, thus placing this letter during his ‘struggling artist’ period at the start of the 1900s, likely while he attended the Slade School of Art with aspirations of becoming a painter.
